El eterno regreso (Villalbilla). Always returning (Villalbilla)
🇺🇸 Always returning (Villalbilla)
Oil on canvas, 122x90cm.
Using the village of #Villalbilla in #Spain, I aimed to transport the viewer to a forgotten corner of time. The memory of the sacred and the everyday merge in these silent ruins.
I painted the dirt road like a snake, guiding the eye toward a structure that was once a place of faith. The central tower, still standing among weathered walls, symbolizes resistance against the passage of time beneath a dramatic sky.
I chose an earthy palette and textured brushstrokes to reinforce the feeling of abandonment. The almost-defeated wooden post is a gesture of vulnerability, a last thread of communication with the outside world.
This piece isn't just about a decaying landscape; it suggests an untold story, the echo of lives that once inhabited this place to which, deep down, we all wish we could return.
