Don Pelayo (en latín, Pelagius) es una figura fundamental en la historia de #España, reconocido como el primer rey del Reino de Asturias y fundador de la monarquía asturiana. Su importancia radica en liderar la resistencia cristiana contra la invasión musulmana de la península ibérica, que había comenzado en el año 711. Se le atribuye la victoria en la Batalla de Covadonga (c. 722), un enfrentamiento considerado el punto de partida de la #Reconquista y el inicio de la formación de los reinos cristianos en el norte. Aunque el Reino de Asturias comenzó como un pequeño foco de resistencia en las montañas, su acción sentó las bases para una dinastía que, con el tiempo, expandiría su dominio y daría lugar a los reinos medievales peninsulares.

Don Pelayo (in Latin, Pelagius) is a fundamental figure in the history of #Spain, recognized as the first king of the Kingdom of Asturias and founder of the Asturian monarchy. His importance lies in leading the Christian resistance against the Muslim invasion of the Iberian Peninsula, which had begun in the year 711. He is credited with the victory in the Battle of Covadonga (c. 722), a confrontation considered the starting point of the Reconquista (Reconquest) and the beginning of the formation of the Christian kingdoms in the north. Although the Kingdom of Asturias began as a small focus of resistance in the mountains, his actions laid the foundations for a dynasty that would, over time, expand its domain and give rise to the medieval peninsular kingdoms.
