Santiago el Mayor (Santiago Apóstol) es el patrón de #España y figura central en su #historia y #tradición cultural. Según la leyenda, tras la crucifixión de Jesús, Santiago viajó a la península ibérica para predicar el Evangelio. Aunque regresó a Jerusalén para ser martirizado, sus restos, según la tradición, fueron trasladados de vuelta a Hispania, siendo su tumba descubierta milagrosamente alrededor del siglo IX en lo que hoy es Santiago de Compostela. Este hallazgo dio origen al Camino de Santiago, una de las rutas de peregrinación más importantes del mundo #cristiano, y convirtió la ciudad en un punto de referencia espiritual. Además, la figura de Santiago Matamoros se convirtió en un símbolo de la #Reconquista, forjando un profundo vínculo entre el apóstol y la identidad nacional y religiosa española.

Saint James the Great (Santiago Apóstol) is the patron saint of #Spain and a central figure in its #history and cultural #tradition. According to legend, after the crucifixion of Jesus, James traveled to the Iberian Peninsula to preach the Gospel. Although he returned to Jerusalem to be martyred, his remains were allegedly transported back to Hispania, with his tomb miraculously discovered around the 9th century in what is now Santiago de Compostela. This discovery gave rise to the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James), one of the most important pilgrimage routes in the #Christian world, and turned the city into a spiritual landmark. Furthermore, the figure of Santiago Matamoros (St. James the Moor-Slayer) became a symbol of the #Reconquista, forging a deep bond between the apostle and the Spanish national and religious identity.
