San Pedro en Getsemaní (2020)En el corazón del huerto de Getsemaní, bajo la luz plateada de una luna llena que presagia el Jueves Santo, yace San Pedro en un momento de vulnerabilidad. Lo he retratado dormido, con la cabeza apoyada en su brazo, que descansa sobre una roca, un detalle que evoca tanto la fragilidad como la vulnerabilidad del apóstol en esta noche crucial. A pesar de la calma aparente, un elemento destaca y rompe la serenidad del cuadro: una espada, sostenida aún con torpeza en su mano, como un eco anticipado del acto impulsivo que lo llevará a cortar la oreja de un soldado.
Esta licencia artística no solo añade dramatismo, sino que también profundiza en el carácter de Pedro, el discípulo impetuoso que, aun en su devoción, se debate entre la fe y el instinto. La luz de la luna, clara, pero distante, parece acentuar esta dualidad: ilumina la escena con una belleza casi sobrenatural, pero también subraya la soledad que se cierne sobre el huerto, un presagio del sacrificio que está por venir. Este cuadro, más que una simple representación, nos invita a reflexionar sobre la humanidad que late incluso en las figuras más emblemáticas de la fe.

Saint Peter in Gethsemane (2020) In the heart of the Garden of Gethsemane, under the silver light of a full moon that foreshadows Holy Thursday, Saint Peter lies in a moment of vulnerability. I have portrayed him asleep, with his head resting on his arm, which lies on a rock, a detail that evokes the apostle's fragility and vulnerability on this crucial night. Despite the apparent calm, one element stands out and breaks the serenity of the painting: a sword, still held awkwardly in his hand, like an anticipated echo of the impulsive act that will lead him to cut off a soldier´s ear.
This artistic license not only adds drama but also delves deeper into the character or Peter, the impetuous disciple who, even in his devotion, is torn between faith and instinct. The moonlight, clear but distant, seems to accentuate this duality: it illuminates the scene with an almost supernatural beauty, but also underscores the solitude that hangs over the garden, a foreshadowing of the sacrifice that is about to come. This painting, more than a simple representation, invites us to reflect on the humanity that beats even in the most emblematic figures of faith.
